how the stones felt

So often people seem to ignore the stones and gaze at the mountains. Maybe if we were bigger they would appreciate us, but we aren’t bigger and the best view we get of you is either the tread of your shoe or the blurred image of your hand as you spin us off into some lake or river. We wish you appreciated us… but were so small and useless… and only river stones and stones from the sea get much attention because they’re round and pretty. And the gemstones get attention ‘cause they’re shiny. But us, the stones you curse at for hurting your feet, get not a word of compliment. It’s hard being a stone. But we don’t curse our lot in life, we’re just sad that you don’t take the time to stoop down and say hello or just give us a pretty smile. That would make a stone’s day.
